Recipe of the Week - Sloppy Joes

This is a little photo from our walk in the Beaches/The Beach today. Have a great Easter Weekend.
The Ultimate Post- Race Sandwich

This week's recipe is really a continutation of the Paris to Ancaster race theme. After a day at the races, dinner has to be pretty tasty but no fuss. In this age of quinoa salads, serrano ham and yellow tomatoes, it is nice to go back to the basics. Is there any thing quite as tasty as hamburg meat in sauce spilling over a sweet Wonderbread bun? This is modified from the recipe found in the New Basics Cookbook by Rosso & Lunkins. How I came to be in possession of this cookbook is its own story, for another day.

1. In a fry pan brown 1 lb of ground beef (make sure it is all broken up). About 5 minutes.

2. Add 1 stalk of celery, minced; 1 cup onion finely chopped; 1/2 green pepper, chopped; & 1/2 tsp. dried oregano. Cook until soft.

3. Add the following and cook for for 4 minutes:
1/2 cup ketchup; 1/2 cup tomato sauce; 1/4 cup water; 2 Tbsp. red wine vinegar; 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce; 1 Tbsp. brown sugar; 1 Tsp. salt; black pepper; Tobasco sauce.

4. Spoon over toasted buns.

Janice you may want to use organic, stone ground, whole wheat with flax buns with a bit of hemp. The rest us should use white hamburg buns.
