40th Wedding Anniversary

Congratulations to Liz & Walt

Forty years ago on May 28, 1966 Liz and Walt tied the knot in Port Perry. To give you a flavour of the times, here are a few highlights of the year:

Lyndon Johnston vowed to stay in Vietnam until Communist agression there is ended. To that end, 250,000 U.S. troops were in Vietnam

"Sweet Charity" opened in New York

The Beach Boys released "Pet Sounds" - agruably, one of the best albums ever

Lennon declared "We are more popular than Jesus" - By August the Beatles played their last concert ever, in Candlestick Park

Jan Berry of Jan and Dean fame, suffered a serious head injuring bring an end to the sing duo - except perhaps for a sighting at Casinorama,

Martin Luther lead a civil rights march in Chicago

Race riots erupted in Lansing Michigan

The Cultural Revolution began in China

The Dick Van Dyke show aired it last episode

France pulled out of Nato. Nato then moved its offices from Paris to Brussels

Nov 28, Truman Capote hosted the Black and White Ball - "The Party of the Century"

The Black Panthers formed

Fast forward to 2006: 2 sons; 3 cats; 6 nieces and nephews; 2 homes; numerous seasons skiing; community work from Pioneer Days to Hospice Wellington; catering; Women in Crisis; Vinyl Siding; Guelph Hospitial; lots of chedder cheese; flying lessons for the son; one elopement; the loss of some dear friends and family; and finally, retirement, Liz and Walt make it to their Ruby Anniversary. This is an outstanding achievement.
